wireless optical desktop problems

Does anyone else have a problem with the wireless
keyboard not working if it is more than a foot away from
the receiver? The wireless mouse works fine, even from
six feet away, yet the keyboard does not unless the
receiver is next to it, defeating the whole point of
having a wireless set-up.

Except when the batteries are low, mine works fine. I regularly watch movies using my keyboard to controll pause and volume ect.. from across the room on XP Pro.
