Wireless Networking

Malcolm Klotz

I am having trouble with my wireless networking;
I have a Linksys Wireless/Wired router, I have one computer connected on the
wire, and one connected wirelessly.
Both computers are running XP SP2, both have file and printer sharing on and
all are on a common workgroup.
Both can access the internet.

My problem is this:

My wireless computer can see my wired computer and it's shared documents,
however, my wired computer can see my wireless computer, but it cannot
access the shared documents (after a while, it claims that I do not have
permission to access the resources on this machine, but I find this hard to
believe as I have given everyone permision). Moreover, my wired computer
cannot ping my wireless computer, either by name or by ip address. To
complicate things farther, if I connect my wireless computer with a wire,
everything works fine.

What is it with the wireless connectivity and configuration that I am
missing?

Looking forward to any help you could offer.

Regards,

Malcolm

Malcolm,

If you're unable to ping the other computer by name or IP address then the
issue is most likely related to your DNS configuration for the wireless NIC.
Check to ensure the settings match identically with the wired NIC settings
and that should correct the problem.

As for not being able to access the shared folder, you must have identically
matched (user id AND password) accounts on both PCs in order to access shared
folders.

Look in those 2 directions, I'm betting the answers are there......
