Wireless Networking w/2000 and XP pro

Dan P

hi...

I was wondering if anyone can help me here... i'm trying
set up a wireless-g network and have done so already.
Everything works fine except the computers can't "see"
each other. I have a wireless-g DSL router/hub, win2000
pc with pc card, and winXPpro pc with usb wireless-g
adapter. They both connect to the router wirelessly to
access the internet connection, however, neither can
access each other's files. I've turned sharing on
everywhere and have gone through multiple variations of
the networking wizard... quite frustrated here...

thanks for you help,
dan

Is everyone in the same workgroup?

Can you ping each computer from the other by IP address? By name?
Have you disabled the XP firewall? [1]

[1] and does your router have a built-in firewall, and are you at the very
least using 128-bit WEP for your wireless encryption?

Im not sure if this will work but it is worth a shot...
Right click on My computer on the windows 2000 machine and
click "Map Network Drives" and go fron there.

Hi, we're having the EXACT SAME issue.

I can ping, and firewalls are all disabled.
Router has firewall and 128-bit WEP is locked and loaded.

Solution found....Try running the Network Setup Wizard again and enabl
(manually) your computer to be seen on the network....this is
different setting than the global file sharing setting in the Contro
Panel>Local Area Connection > Properties.
XP has disabled shared documents by default.

Cheers.
