wireless networking- keep connecting to neighbor's access point

My downstair neighbor has just recently set up a wireless access point.
My wireless LAN card (IBM) somehow prefers my neighbor's network to
mine. Our ssids are different. He uses channel 6 (which I did too) so I
switched mine to channel 1. None of these worked. I noticed that when I
tried to reapply settings to use my network in the wireless client
manager provided by IBM, the software does not seem to know that my
network is set to use channel 1. It randomly picks either channel 9 or
5 or 2 or whatever, then settles on my neighbor's AP. Occaionally it
would end up on mine and stick around for various amount of time, and
then veer off.

Please, what can I do?

Well, in WinXP go to Control Panel, Network Connections. Right click on
the wireless connection and click on properties. Then select
Connections. Highlight the connections there. Eventually you will get
to a screen where you can select the option that will prevent unwanted
connections.
