wireless network trouble

keith

I have a pc running windows XP home and a laptop running windows 2000.
I have installed a wireless router and wireless cards in bot th pc and
the laptop.
I can access the internet fron either machine but am unable to create a
network to link the two machines.
The pc (host machine) appears to be set up OK but I am unable to run
network setup on the laptop as when I try there is no option for a
wireless connection, only wired or infrared.
There is a wireless network set up on the laptop (this is a company
machine which I use at home) for the company network. This must remain
in use.
I am now pulling my hair out at this.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. This is my first go at setting
up a network so please simple suggestion / instructions

simply establish the ip address of both machines from running a command
prompt on each and typing

ipconfig

press enter

you'll probably get something like

IP: 192.168.1.2.
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.1681.1

the IP will be different on the desktop and the laptop

note each of the address's and from either type the others details into the
Start
Run box
in the format

\\192.168.xx.xx (where the xx's are the actual numbers)

This will open the others shares (if any exist)
