Wireless Network for SP2

K

kiros

Hi all
I want to set up a wireless network for a home or small office.
So i click the "My Network Places" to set up.
It pop-up a Wireless Network Setup Wizard and i follow the step to do
it. But when i want to save my settings to usb flash drive, it always
show the message "The system canno find the file specified".
And i can't save my settings to usb flash drive.

It's ok in XP Pro SP2. But something wrong in XPE SP2.

Is some component missed?
What can i do? Anybody knows?

Thanks
Kiros

Do you have the USB Mass storage Device and the USB Storage Device
components in the image? Is the image running stand alone from a C drive
partition?

Hi
Yes, i have included USB Mass storage Device and the USB Storage Device

components and the usb storage device works fine.
But when i want to save my wireless settings to usb flash drive, it
still
show the message "The system canno find the file specified".

My image with two drives ( C: and X: ). The drive of X is ramdisk
drive.
So i think my image is running stand alone with C drive.

Thanks

Kiros,

I guess that I'm too tired to think straing right now.
But what is your boot medium?

And what is the volume letter of USB storage?
Can you write some file to USB sotrage from XPe?

Slobodan

Hi
My boot medium is DOM.
And the volume letter of USB storage is D.
I can write file to the USB storage from XPE.
This function works fine in XP Pro SP2 but not in XPE SP2.

The USB storage all works fine in XPE SP2.
But when i want to save my wireless settings to usb flash drive,
it always show the message "The system canno find the file specified".

Thanks

Hi Kiros,

Are you saying following:
1. You can save your wireless settings on C: for instance without this error.
2. You have D: (USB disk) working and accessible for other file writes.
3. You can' save your wireless settings only on D: (USB disk).

If above it true then I'm clueless.

Sorry,
Slobodan

KM

Kiros,

Do you have the following components in your image?

"Network Setup Wizard"
"Universal Plug & Play"
"Primitive: msctf"
"Primitive: imm32"
"Netshell" (the latest one from SP2)

Hi, Slobodan
I think the wireless settings just can be saved on flash drive.
I can't see the option that can be saved on C:.
The other two questions are right.
Thanks.

Hi, KM
I add all components but it still can't.
I don't know if it is a bug or just happen to my XPE image (XPE SP2).

KM

Kiros,

This feature works fine on XP Pro SP2 so it should (theoretically) work on XPe SP2.
Did you try monitoring the Network Setup Wizard (when it comes to saving settings to the USB drive) with Filemon?
You may see the missing Dlls right away. Then it would be just a matter of finding proper components that contain those Dlls.

Kiros,

Also, just in case check it Universal Plug and Play works on your runtime.
If not (there is a missing a registry resource in the UPnP component), follow these steps to make it working:
1. Open the configuration in Target Designer, and locate the Extra Registry Data item located at the top of the list.
2. Ensure that HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE is selected in the Root field.
3. Type "SOFTWARE\Microsoft\UPnP Device Host" in the Key Name field.
4. Type "Security.FBA" in the "Value Name" field.
5. Make sure that REG_SZ is selected in the Type field.
6. In the Value field, type:
D:pAR(A;CI;KA;;;BA)(A;CIIO;KA;;;CO)(A;CI;KA;;;LS)(A;CI;KA;;;SY)(A;CI;KR;;;BU)

PS. This might not be directly related to your issue. But I saw UPnP requests made while Network Setup Wizard runs through the
"saving to a Usb Key" steps.
