Wireless mouse is very slow to respond

My grandmother's wireless mouse is slow and you have to click on an
icon several times for the program to open/respond. She says this
doesn't happen all the time but I used her computer for about 6hrs one
day and had this problem the entire time.

She's had the mouse a few years. I think it's a Microsoft Wireless
Optical Mouse 2.0 (or maybe 3000). She tried replacing the batteries
but that didn't help.

The only other things I can think of are:
1) It's broke (possibly from my cousin's abuse of it)
2) The wireless router that was installed over a month ago is causing
interference. Although, the mouse was working fine for several weeks
after the router was installed.

Any ideas on what the problem could be and/or how to fix it?

Is the computer slow with a different mouse connected? If it is, I'd
look more to malware/viruses being the cause of computer slowness
rather than the mouse.

Be sure her computer is clean:

Try re-arranging the wireless receiver closer to the mouse and clear away any
"electronic" device between the receiver and mouse.

BTW: The Wireless 3000 mouse is relatively new (came out late 2005 or earlier
this year.)
