Wireless Mouse is very eratic

I have a Lonovo Thinkpad T60 running XP and everytime I plug in the mouse
reciever it starts to act very eratic when I start using it. It will lag
behind , jump around etc. Wired mice are fine when plugged in. Please advise?

How does the wireless mouse work in other machines?
Is the latest driver for the wireless mouse installed on the laptop?
If you disable the touchpad on the laptop, does that help the wireless
mouse?
Have you changed the batteries on the wireless mouse?
What is the make/model of the wireless mouse in question?

What USB port is the receiver plugged in to? My Logitech works better from
the the side ports than from a rear port.
