Wireless Lan - Help

Richard

I have everything working, but it must be done manually each time.

If I tell XPe to connect to any available network it never finds them. If I
enter default into the name of the "preferred network" then rescan it finds
it fine and will use it. I exit out of Wireless Configuration and go back
in all my changes are gone.

This must be done after any reboot or wireless networking does not work.
This is not the behavior exhibited in XP Pro.
I've seen other messages like this but I have not seen any resolutions.

Please, does anyone know what I need to do to make my changes stick, or have
default network be automatically connected?

Desperate,
Richard

Using RegMon, I can see the default or Preferred Network is not being
written to the registery. Haven't figured out how to use incntrl yet on the
windows network configuration. Filemon writes more stuff than I can to
trace down.

Richard,
Have you tried disabling / stopping the "Wireless zero configuration"
service? Perhaps if this is disabled, the dlink application will work.

Yes, I disabled the component and rebuilt the image. Aircfg still doesn't
work.
I can't use the install program because I get the Install Shield scripting
error even after I installed Dos Windows support and Windows Installer.

Richard,
If I had another idea, I would pass it on, but right now I am out of ideas.

Could it be something to do with Adhoc? I think I read somewhere that XP
doesn't scan Adhoc networks, but you must actually enter it in manually and
then connect. But you figured once it was added it would always try and
find it.

Scenerio, XPe has 802.b card. When we pull up to location with our laptop,
we want the link to be automatically negotiated so we can talk.

I was using Netgear HR314 AP and Netgear HA501 for a couple of years now and
when I installed SP2 (xppro) I lost all connection ability, killed firewall
and the system is manually set up with netgear utility so I can use 152bit
WEP. Stripped system router and card to open system and can see network but
now connect. Even tried the WinWireless wiz but it says it can't configure
the components. Netgear says contact Microsoft and Microsoft says contact
Netgear. Thank goodness for the SP2 uninstall wizard. I did resolve the
problem with Norton antivirus just fine though.
