My wireless connection gets disconnected sporadically
(sometimes after 5 minutes, sometimes after 1 hour).
I am using a WRT54G Linksys wireless router and a
WindowsXP Professional (Dell Inspiron Laptop) with a
Microsoft MN-720 wireless notebook adapter for a 802.11g
connection.
Other than the sporadic disconnection issue, the setup
and regular operation is working fine.
I have tested and ruled out interference or distance from
the router (I am only 10ft away).
I have also tried the following:
1) Windows XP service pack 1a
2) turning off 802.1x authentication
3) disabling the Wireless Zero Configuration service as
per MSKnowledgebase article 821400. This broke the router
connection almost immediately due to a new
authenticiation error so I had to re-enable the service
to get the sporadically available wireless connection to
work again - therefore I am assuming this is not the
problem
4) Disabling ('never update') the Internet connection
status notification from the Broadband Network Utility in
the Windows taskbar
5) Checked for MN-720 driver update (none yet available)
Can someone please give me some more suggestions. I am
tempted to take the MN-720 back to the store and trade it
for another brand but based on the fact that my router,
internet sharing, security, and workgroup settings are
all working fine I am almost certain it is a WindowsXP or
Microsoft Broadband Utility setting somewhere that is not
configured properly. Please Help!!!
