Wireless card not recognised

I use DLink Air plus wireless card used on my toshiba laptop on XP Pro sp2
for a 2+ yrs with relatively little problems. Just recently the new hardware
installer pops up saying there is new hardware randomly but regularly. I
hibernate my laptop and have done so since I bought it. My solution has been
to do a system restore and that fixes it. Can anyone tell me why this would
be happening and how I might fix it permanently? I have XP auto update so
everything is up to date in that regard.

Locate and download the drivers for this wireless card on www.dlink.com.

In Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs --> Uninstall the Dlink drivers

Then, install the newly download drivers for your card.

Make sure that the correct motherboard chipset drivers are installed and up to
date.

Make that the PCMCIA/Card Bus drivers are correctly installed.
