Wireless card can't reach DHCP server

Just got a new USB G wireless card for my W2k SP4 laptop.

After installing the driver & card, put in the correct WEP key etc.
the card is connected to the network at my work place. But, it can't
reach the DHCP server. As a result, it got the auto config IP 169.254.*.*

Entering the command "ipconfig /reset Local*" yields the following error:

The following error occurred when renewing adapter
Local Area Connection: DHCP Server unreachable

I put back my old Wireless PC Card (B) and that works just fine. It got
a 192.168.* ip address.

So, I tried the USB G card again at home and it worked OK without
problem.

Anyone knows what the problem is:
1. Some setting in my workplace's router is wrong?
2. Or some setting in my laptop?

Thanks in advance,
TL

I hate to admit it but windows xp is far superior to win2k when it comes to
wireless networking so if you can upgrade to xp. That being out of the way I
would check and make sure your router supports 802.11g it could be that they
are negotiating a speed and it takes to long for the usb card to fall back
to b speeds and it is timing out on dhcp. Is you network showing up in the
wifi app? You could be connecting to a different wifi network and trying to
get a dhcp off of it.

Yeah. XP is better but I have to use w2k... Too bad.

My home router is G but my company one is B. Do you think that is the
reason? But, look like the connection is established OK with all the
green signal.

That could be it, the G is supposed to fall back to b speeds but I have seen
that not to be reliable. Do you have the user manual that tells you how to
force it to connect at b speeds?
