WinXP SP2 Firewall won't deactivate

Hi folks,

Since I updated to SP2 I cannot access my box from the LAN anymore. All
ports (1-65535) are completely stealthed (I checked with a portscanner), all
connection attempts, including those to ports that are opened in the
firewall, time out without any reply whatsoever. Outbound traffic from the
box works completely normal though.

Here's the knack: It doesn't even help to deactivate the Windows Firewall.
Not even completely stopping the Firewal service helped.

When I installed SP2 I had Kerio Personal Firewall 4.0.1 installed, so I
figured it might be a conflict between those two. But the problem still
persists after completely deinstalling Kerio.

I have a feeling that the Firewall isn't disabled completely for whatever
reason. Is there a way to check this (i.e. look what way the packets take
through the system)? Or is there a known problem anybody here might know a
solution to?

Thanks a bunch and regards,
Carsten

Had a similar problem but with Sygate. The latest build of Sygate fixed it
for me. Perhaps Kerio has a recent build you should download

I had the same problem today with SP2 and ZoneAlarm Pro 5.1
(officially supported under SP2). ZAP was detected by XP and the
Security Centre insisted that the XP Firewall was off but I twice
received pop-up dialogue boxes asking whether I wished to add programs
to the Firewall's exceptions list. Even worse, no matter how I
responded all internet connectivity was lost. Needless to say I
rapidly uninstalled SP2 and the PC immediately regained its 'net
connection.
