WinXP SP2 and S-ATA drives

Greetings,

Just got a brand new computer with a S-ATA HD drive. In the BIOS the S-ATA
drive shows up as being the third drive Master, the DVD burner being the
second Master, no other drive present. Windows XP won't start anymore. At
the system boot up, I see the POST and the Windows XP logo shows up for 20
seconds then the system reboots and on and on. How can I configure the
S-ATA drive to be the first IDE Master instead of the third ?

Please help. TIA

With xp installed on which drive..Was it previously in another computer.
Either way,in BIOS,set for SATA in "Boot Priority" or similiar, set for SATA
in
advanced chip-set configuration,integrated peripherals or similiar.Also,if xp
is already on the SATA drive, the hd was in another computer, you'll need to
reinstall xp,press the F6 option when installing, when booting to xp cd to
install.For more info go

SATA drives really do not have master and slave the way IDE drives used to
have.

Further, SATA drives can NOT be connected to IDE controllers, unless you get
a special interface cable. The connectors look nothing alike and are
definitely not interchangeable.

Also, SATA drives usually require special drivers added during the XP
installation. These are specific to the motherboard (SATA disk controller).
If you move an SATA drive to a new controller (new motherboard) you must
perform a repair installation of XP to have any hope of the drive working.

Finally, was XP running fine, then it just suddenly stopped, OR did you do
something (e.g., add software or hardware), OR was something done to you
(e.g., virus, power blackout)? The sequence of events just preceding the
problem can often be important to getting good advice.
