winxp login after screensaver not working

Until recently, when my screensaver ran and then i hit a button i was
prompted to enter my username/password. Now - having put the latest
(Apr04) patches on and started to use offline/sync web brwosing, as
the obvious changes - I find that when the scr-saver runs and I hit a
button I get just the wallpaper and then cntl-alt-del gets me str to
where I left off (plus the Task Manager window) but does NOT ask for
username/password... I need this security hole fixing. I've checked
Display Props and "on resume display Welcome screen" is indeed
checked.

Help!
