WinXP Home Fresh install fails

After a hard drive failure, I'm trying to reinstall WinXP Home. The drive
formats fine. When the Windows install begins copying files to the hard
drive, it stops halfway through with the message,

"Setup cannot copy the file: dx7ub.dll

"to retry, press Enter

"If you are installing from a CD make sure the Windows XP CD is in the CD
ROM Drive

"To skip this file, press ESC . . ."

I've tried a different CD with the same result. I even replaced the CD ROM
drive, thinking it wasn't working correctly.

If I press ESC, then the same message pops up with another file, then another.

Any suggestions?

It just goes to the next file and fails on that one. If I skip the second
one it may load a few more files and then quit again. The last time I
tried it, I skipped about 10 files before giving up.

BTW, I've tried a different install disk and it does the same thing.

Same thing - it just goes to the next file and fails again. Occassionally it
will write a couple of files before failing again

Steve,
I had a similar problem with my system.
I realized that I was in such a hurry that I forgot to unplug any external
peripherals (Printer, Scanner, KVM, etc...) Once I un-plugged all these and
connected my Keyboard, Monitor and Mouse directly to the system, I was able
to install without these problems.

Hope this helps
Charlie
