I't the second time it happens since I bought my brand
new ATHLON XP 2400+ with 1GB in RAM, 80 GB HDD, 64MB
NVIDIA GEFORCE 4 MX400.

When bootin-up, and error message appears sayin' that "a
corrupt or missing file has been detected on:
C:\Windows\System32\Config\System
You can run setup from the Setup CD and press 'r' at the
main screen to attempt to repair"

Afer that doesn't matter what key i press the pc reboots
and starts the problem again. I tryied the r thing, but
it opens the recovery console and I'm lost there.

Please advice, as I don't want to reformat or reinstall
again as it would mean to re-install every program and
data i need (over 30GB).

Thanks in advance,
Juan Carlos

Hi, Juan Carlos ...

'Repair' and 'Repair from Recovery Console' are two different features. We tried unsuccessfully to have MS change the terminology during the beta program as is so confusing, but ...

Anyway, you need to do a 'Repair' and there are excellent step-by-step instructions at Michael Stevens site located at:
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Hi Fred,

Yes indeed the repair and repair console are not the
same, the problem is that the repair instalation you are
talking about is not available. So someone else gave me
this url: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?
scid=kb;en-us;307545

What do you think?

Regards,
Juan Carlos
