WINS Server Statistics

I

Ian Hendry

While reviewing my WINS Server stats I noticed that I have
the following:

Total Queries: 60,871
Records Found: 11,019
Records Not found: 49,852

My question is; Should I be concerned about the # of
records not found, and what would be causing them not to
be found?

Thanks

This typically is not a problem. The reason this happens is that WINS is part of the normal resolution path. If a client queries for something in DNS, and the
DNS query is not successful then the client may query WINS for this. If this was a DNS name, then of course WINS will not have this entry and a failure will be
noted. An example of this would be anytime you mistype a URL in the web browser this could potentially generate a failed query on the WINS server.

Thank you,
Mike Johnston
