Could some please post the link for Winmx repair again. Someone earlier
posted the direct exe link for me, but my daughter deleted it before I got
around to doing it. Thanks a million.

For what? Winmx has been pulled offline for some time now. Has to do
with lawsuits against P2P providers, I suppose.

Thanks, Art, says she *blushing*. I just tried several times to use it and
couldn't. Didn't know it was offline coz I haven't used it for quite a
while.

Oh well, this was timely. I uninstalled it and now know not to bother
putting it back on. Tried one called *Ares* instead. But I rarely download
music anymore.....got quite enough as it is.

It isn't against copyright law in Canada to use these music sharing apps so
far, btw.

Cheers....Heather

Thanks once again. I had no idea it was based in Toronto, but have been
using it for years. In fact, I was on dialup when I downloaded most of my
songs.

I tried Limewire, but don't particularly like the setup. And for anyone
interested, I saw a blurb on Limewire a few weeks back that said someone
*had infiltrated the database* for programs and there was a virus on there.
Didn't affect the music downloading apparently. Wasn't about to find out,
lol.

Cheers.......Heather

Did you notice at that blurb url there's a ad for winmx2005 that leads
you here:

http://www.winmx2005.com/us/

where you register. I dunno if it works or not, since I'm not
interested in fooling with it right now. I am interested in seeing
how the legal battles turn out, though.

WinMX, eDonkey Closing Doors - [General]
Submitted by Forcefire on 9/22/2005 10:20:19 AM 50 Comments

Popular file-sharing site WinMX.com ceased operating and the New York
office of another, eDonkey.com, appeared to be closed, in the
continuing legal fallout among underworld peer-to-peer music services,
industry sources and users said on Wednesday.
The turmoil among file-sharing networks follows the landmark ruling by
the U.S. Supreme Court in June that held anyone who distributes a
device used to infringe copyright is liable for the resulting acts of
infringement by others.

Interesting. I hadn't noticed it. But I have to rush out and shop. I did
hit Download and got a *woman* talking to me saying it was TOTALLY FREE,
etc. I will look into it later coz I much prefer that one......particularly
now that I know it is Canadian!! LOL!!

I just like how it is set up, compared to Ares or Limewire, etc. Old dog
and all that. Did you know there is a news group for WinMX?? I haven't
time to check it out at the moment.

Thanks again, and I have loads of 50's mp3's if you want any, grin.
Remember Rompin' Ronnie Hawkins? Got all of his. Knew him way back when.
Actually, way back when Levon Helm was his drummer and Robbie Robertson
joined his band (The Hawks).

Off to do some boring grocery shopping.

Thanks but no thanks. My tastes run to cool jazz and super drummers
from the past like Buddy Rich and Louie Bellson. I was a Stan Kenton
freak as well. About the only modern artists I enjoy are vocalists
with top notch voices like Josh Groban and Charlotte Church.

Oh shoot.....I forgot you were THAT much older than moi!! (VBG) Ron's
tastes were jazz too way back in the 60's, but I have corrupted him with all
sorts of different genres of music.....OTOH, he did live in the West Indies
and speaks fair to middlin' spanish, so there is that influence as well.
Julio, sigh!!

Heather )

It was working fine on Monday (without any workaround). Will work okay
now too if you add a few lines to your hosts file.

Hi Jim...I added the one Trish gave, which was the same as yours (checked
them both). But not connecting. I did the very first time but could only
see my songs....no one else's.

Guess I will try later. Tried changing connections, but not sure what I am
doing with those.

Thanks........Heather

yeah, just watch out for bill c-60, though... or better yet, complain to
your local representative about it... ask them why they're willing to
hand over copyright policy creation to the content industry and why
they're bending over for an elite few instead of looking out for the
interests of the majority of canadians...

Really?? I think that is excellent!! Good for him. As long as it isn't
that junk they call *rap*. (G)
