Im getting error messages saying

WinMgmt.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x77fcbacc" referenced memory
at "0xaafffff8" The memory cold not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate the program
Clic on CANCEL to debug the program

Clicking OK clears the dialog box, but the error keeps
coming up.

The machine is an IBM Netvista 6792-3SU Pentium4 2GHz
w/256MB RAM operation on Windows 2000 Pro SP4.

I would try to reinstall SP4 first.

If that doesn't help, KB article Q298130, which is no longer available on
Microsoft's support site, used to recommend the following:

1. Stop the Windows Management Instrumentation service
2. Create a backup folder on the machine named C:\repbackup
3. Move all files from the "%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem\Repository" folder to
the backup folder
4. Reboot the machine (and cross your fingers)

NOTE: There's probably a good reason why Microsoft has pulled this article,
so if you're really desperate, you should only try this as a last resort!!!
