Winmgmt.exe error

I am running Windows 2000,and I constantly get error
messages that Winmgmt.exe has generated errors and will be
closed by windows. I could cope if it only happened once,
but it pops up every 30 seconds or so and drives me nuts!
(there it goes again!)

Does anyone have a fix?

What (exact) error messages and when and.... More information will be
needed and this does not initially sound like a registry issue in any
case.
