WinMail strange behavior lately.

About two weeks ago I noticed that WinMail was
acting different. The only real problem I have had with
WinMail is the horrible amount of time it can take to
"Mark All as Read". Lately, when I go to reply to a
post or compose a new one, there's a delay in the
window popping up and for a few seconds it's basically
all white. If I go to select part of the text to cut out of
a post, there's a slight delay/freeze. It's really odd, I
haven't installed anything new since this started to happen.

have you cleaned up and compacted the data based.
might try and see if that helps.

only problem I have has was over 30K messages and using Catch up, took a little bit with a message on screen of progress.

I did all that. Even reset the groups, only downloading a about
300 posts for each group.

Michael,

To get more than 300 at a time, go to
tools>options>read tab; and uncheck the get 300 headers at a time box; or up
the number it gets.

Hey, Jeff. Thanks for the tip, but I knew that. :)

I only downloaded 300 posts on purpose- I thought by
keeping WinMail slimmed down, it would help... it didn't.
WinMail has issues.

I would recommend keeping that option unchecked. Its always been flaky and
often does not get the newest messages.

You can try compacting the database and see if that makes any difference.
Its still going to be slow. Try CTRL-A followed by CTRL-Q and see if that
is any faster.

You can manually compact the database by going to Tools | Options | Advanced
| Maintenance and change the compact value to 1. Then close WinMail and it
will compact. Then change the number back again. That will make the
database as efficient as it can be, given its design.
