Winlogon Process 99% CPU Usage!?!?!?

I have a computer that when you logon everything runs
perfectly. However after about 10 minutes the
Winlogon.exe process jumps up to 99% CPU usage! This
pretty much renders the PC usless. I have searched the
knowledge base and found an article that talked about a
W32.Klez virus that would do this, but when I did what it
said to determine if there was a virus I didn't find any.
I have run ad aware and also done a virus scan with the
lastest definitions but have yet to discover anyhting out
of the normal. It doesn't matter which profile you are
under, it still does it even under administrator. Does
anyone know anything anything about this or how to fix it?

Hey Adam,

I don't know what will fix it, but my solution to this issue, which just
happened to me yesterday, was to delete my partition and reinstall Windows
XP Pro.

The last thing I remembered before that winlogon.exe issue started was a
pop-up window from Stop-sign.com. I believe they may have did this to my
system to promote their software. I could be wrong, but when I did a search
for "winlogon.exe" their site popped up - odd!?!

Good luck!

The Netsky.D virus executable is also called winlogon.

The virus is c:\windows\winlogon.exe

The real one is c:\windows\system32\winlogon.exe
