winlogon.exe problems

B

Bob Wright

On boot one of the computers on network has the following error screen
(winxp media center edition sp2).

Winlogon.exe Application Error
The instruction at "ox7c8edf9c" referenced memory at "ox7c8edf9c". The
memory could not be "written"
Ok or cancel causes the computer to reboot.

Maybe unconnected problem reported by ZA anti-virus.
not-a-virus:adware.win32.vitrumonde.hb
not-a-virus:adware.win32.agent.at

This virus (trojan?) continues to pop up on reboots even though deleted.

Any suggestions?
If I should post on a different newsgroup let me know.

You may want to try a posting that I found to be helpful while
troubleshooting my issue. Although in your case, you may need a Bootable CD
(like WinPE) to execute these procedures.

Search for "Winlogon.exe chewing up CPU" (with out the " " ) and select on
the one that has 25 or so posts to it. There are many links in there to send
you to D/L many useful tools.

Or, if that is not an option, May want to remove the HDD, and slave it on
another PC. Run the tools from the good PC. Make sure your AV is up to date
on the Good PC before slaving the HDD.

Hope this gives you some ideas.
