windows xp

Things were not going right so i thought i would re-install xp but it looks
like i may have put it along side the other copy of xp. how do i fix this
with out having to re- install again or takeing it to a shop and getting them
to fix it...have tryed to remove old files but sometimes it will not let me
or im not sure if im removing the right ones...I know nothing about things
like this, so please dont get to tec on me.
