Windows XP upgrade failure

S

some guy

I recently decided to upgrade one of my computers to
Windows XP Professional, but apparently, the CD hates me.
After preparing installation, It had me reboot, as usual,
then it began to install. It finished one part of the
install, and then almost halfway through the "installing
network" part, it stopped. completely. I can't put
everything back to normal, because I can't get it to stop
restarting the WinXP setup. I used my backup, but that
didn't solve anything either. I need to know what files I
need to delete and/or change to stop setup from coming
back on boot. I have many important things that can't be
saved before a format, and I don't want to lose any of it.

Physically disconnect all hardware peripherals from your PC,
except the monitor, keyboard and mouse. Then try a "Repair
Install".
