Windows XP update

I have been keeping my 2 computers reasonably up to date in terms of the
Windows updates. One has XP Home and the other XP Professional.

Yesterday (15 Feb 06) I noticed that there were critical updates availble.
I tried downloading these - one by clicking on the yellow shield and the
other by going to the windows update website via the Start menu (one on each
PC).

Neither successfully downloaded the update and now neither will load the
Windows update page.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and how do I resolve it?

One of 4 updates failed to download for me. I waited until the next day,
then it downloaded and installed successfully. I assume that the Microsoft
servers might have been overwhelmed the previous day.

Best advice is to wait a while and try again.

Thanks, I tried again a few times but Internet Explorer still freezes when I
try to go to the Windows upodate site. Also since the date I had the problem
my laptop won't shutdown gracefully (and its only 1 week old). I have even
tried a System Restore in SafeMode but that doesn't work. I still can't do a
graceful shutdown.

Any assistance gratefully received.
