Windows XP Time Problems

S

Samuel

Hello everyone,

I've been using the time synchronization feature on WinXP
to keep my computer displaying the correct time. Though,
after manually synchronizing from the time servers , I
noticed the clock becomes slow (one second takes two
seconds or longer.) I thought nothing of it, but after
some time the clock displays the wrong time (About 10-
15mins out, in about a couple of weeks).
I could just not use this feature at all but I think it
should run properly without this happening.
Any solutions would be helpful.

usually a cmos battery or a bad mobo. Battery is a easy,
go to radio shack and match up with a new one. MOBO is
may or may not be worth changing, a leaking capacitor
could be changed, but hardly worth the time and trouble
if you could find it.

Before anyone whose clock is running slow rushes out to buy a new
battery, he should first take note of whether he is losing time
while the computer is running or while it's powered off. If it's
while powered off, the problem *is* very likely the battery. But
if it's while running, it can *not* be the battery.

If the clock loses time while running, try this:

Open a command prompt window (Start | Run | cmd) and enter the
following commands:

net stop w32time
w32tm /unregister
w32tm /register
net start w32time
