Windows XP task bar buttons

HStone

When a program, such as Word or I.E. is running, task bar
has buttons associated with each program/window opened. I
cannot see the task bar buttons for the applications that
I started, and if minimized, if would not show minimized
button short of using ALT+TAB to determine the
applications running.

I have been experiencing this behavior lately and do not
know what has caused the task bar buttons to disappear or
hide. Please help

The question I have is "does your taskbar show at all?"
you say the buttons disappear but is your taskbar visible
when this happens. If not then you have the auto hide
feature enabled. Right click the taskbar then click
properties and then uncheck the box that says auto-hide
the taskbar. Keep smiling.

Could this be your problem.

I suspect that you have installed the FriendsGreeting worm which in addition
to sending unsolicited e-mails to everyone in your address book (something
you
will have agreed to when you installed this worm) also has the unpleasant
side
effect you are seeing of removing minimised applications from the task bar.
More information on this worm and how to remove it may be obtained from the
sites listed below.

Joan,

Thanks for your feedback. I will look into this solution. Hopefully it will work.
