Hi can anybody help

on start up of my daughters pc she has the following message "windows
did not start successfully a recent hardware or software change may
have caused this"

it then goes on to say choose options below
safe mode
safe mode with networking
safe mode with command prompt
last known good configuration
start windows normally

gives you 30 secs to choose an option we have tried to pick one of the
above but all it does is go through the start up procedure and back to
this message we havent tried to load anything on to her pc its
running on windows xp home edition we can select the options but all
it does is starts to load then goes back to the screen above

it seems that are only of the
few options to you.

one of them might fix you
right up.

you need to boot the pc via
the cd drive with a windows cd.

then via it's installation setup
procedure it will give you the option
to go into the "recovery console"

the recovery console will get you
into the disk and at the c prompt
run the following commands:

chkdsk
fixmbr
fixboot

then type exit to quit the console mode
and remove the cd and see if you can
boot normally again.
