Windows XP speakers emergency

Please someone help me! The speakers which came with my Dell Computer
(Windows XP Home Edition) aren't working. I have checked all the volume
controls on Control Panel, and everything says they should be working. My
computer was packed up for a couple of months, and it may sound lame, but I'm
not sure whether I have plugged the speakers back in correctly. The color
coding doesn't help here because one of the plugs is a salmon color, and
there is a salmon-colored port on the back of the tower and also one on the
back of a speaker. I am a real dinosaur with computers, please advise me
what to do. These speakers are only about four years old.

Normally the salmon colour is the microphone, I'm guessing your speakers
have a hole on the front for an external microphone to plugin?

usually, Green is the speakers for sound?

Have you tried your speakers in another device, i.e. plug the green
connetion into an Ipod or something?

Tried other speakers in your machine?

Regards
Paul.

Check your system documentation for information on plugging the speakers
into the computer correctly.

Otherwise, check the following:

1. Are the speakers plugged into a power outlet?

2. Do the speakers have an on-off switch and is it turned on?

3. Is the volume control on the speakers (not just in Windows) turned up
high enough to hear them?
