Windows XP SP1 Security Update

Gartner is tell their customers that Microsoft is dropping security update
support for Windows XP SP1 on 10/10/2006. Is this true. They told us that
we will not be able to get the security patch for SP1 and must upgrade to SP2
or pay Microsoft extra for being able to download security patches for SP1.
We are a large company and it's almost impossible to upgrade all.
Where can I find support dates for Windows XP?

Thanks for the information.

Only issue I have is how to get a large amounts of data to all the laptops.
I have 7000+ machines to update and 40% is highly mobile. I do have SMS so
that I can categorize the machines with high speed connection to get the
thing installed. However those highly mobile clients, who rarely comes in
the office is an issue. They do come into the network via VPN but, depending
on ISP's connection reliability, even though they have high speed, their
latency of the network is unpredictable. This means there is a relatively
high chance that SMB sessions may time out during copying.
I have to give some more thoughts to this. Perhaps I sould upgrade SMS to
2003 so I can take advantage of trickle down copy...
