Windows XP Search Screwed UP ?!

J

John Bailo

I was looking for some .jar files to see if they were downloaded on my
computer.

I was using the XP search ( with the dog ).

Man, that search is BROKEN!

The files all started with ema, so they are in the format ema*.jar

I searched for ema*.jar on my c: drive ( the only drive ) and found nothing.

Then I tried just ema and it found some files.

Curious, I opened a command window and did a

dir ema*.jar /s

It found several copies in the internet temporary folder and the cache.

I am now searching for those ( to delete them ) manually...but I never
would have found them with the built in search !!!

Advanced Options of what ?

Search -> All files and folders... See below the "Look In" box? There
should be a couple of options there.

When was it modified?
What size is it?
More advanced options

Select the More advanced options.

....still, the moronic cretin has a point: XP's search is as broken as
one can be.

most users wouldn't want to have hidden/system files in their search results,
