windows XP search not working

Search in Windows Explorer does not work: The Search
Companion returns the message "Unexpected error. Action
could not be completed"

Installation of SP2 has not affected the problem either
way. Indexing service is not enabled. Happens with files &
folders, documents and pictures/music /video search i.e.
everything.

Great, glad you got it fixed and thanks for posting back.

I have the same problem but the Kelly solutions did not work. Any further
suggestions? I do have a variety of protection software running including ad
blockers and firewalls. Way around them?
