Windows XP Screen Saver Does Not Work??

I recently purchased a Dell 8500 system with Windows
XP standard addition installed and quickly realized that
that no screen savers work. I can preview the screen
savers, but the screen saver won't come on at the
designated time. Is anyone aware of any known issues
that would be causing this or any possible fixes? The
system is configured as indicated below.

Dell 8500
80GB hard drive
3Ghtz
1GB ram
Sound Blaster Live 5.1 Sound Card
40X CDR Drive
4x DVD Drive
Radeon Pro 128mb Video Card

Any help would be appreciated.
