windows xp running sluggish

hi

i have got a fresh install of windows xp and it is running
very sluggish. I have 512mb ram and 2.8mhz processor.

to print it takes about 5 minutes to get the print job up
on the screen and then two minutes to get the document to
print.

i have run a defrag and has improved a little however it
is still very sluggish.

i did have 3 versions of myob installed on the machine and
uninstalled two of them. is this why it would happen?

the defrag was run after i uninstalled the programs

What else can i do to improve performance? Should i
reinstall windows xp over the top of everything?
