Windows XP Restore

Hi,

I have windows XP and accidentally rebooted the computer
while installing the updates. It now doesn't boot at all.
When I tried using the Start-Up Disk and "c:" and "dir" It
doesn't show the correct partition. It shows the E: drive
instead. I think the boot has gone to the E: instead of
the C: partition. The problem is I can't seem to get it to
boot back to the proper C: drive.

Is there anyway to solve this problem without a complete
re-install? I have tried the recovery feature...the
problem is.....it keeps telling me the admnistrator
password is invalid. Is there anyway I can bypass this
password or find out what the password is?

Or is my only option the complete reinstall?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

If you can get to the StartUp Menu - do 'Last Known Good
Configuration'

To get the StartUp Menu - keep pressing F8 on and off as
soon as the Computer starts up - after the POST Test if
yours does that

If that doesn't work then repeat the above and from the
Menu - choose Safe Mode - then try System Restore in Safe
Mode - back to the day before your 'mistake'
