I recently lost the task bar that shows which programs are active. I still
have the start-up buttons and the quick launch. I'm just missing the
programs that I've selected to work with.

Any help would be appreciated.

I've got the same problem as Denny.

Just yesterday, my taskbar disappeared entirely. I was just updating my
Adobe Reader (from version 6 to 7), and I had to restart my PC. Right after
logging back into my account, my taskbar was gone! Just gone, no error
messages, no program crashes, not even a sound notification of soemthing
wrong. I checked to see if it was minimized (i usually keep it locked
anyways), and checked if it was in auto-hide. Nothing.

I'm currently running Windows XP Home on my laptop (Compaq Presario
M2105CA). My laptop hasn't acted weird lately, so I don't know what would be
the culprit here...

Hello, it's me again. Please disregard my previous post. I don't know what
happened, but my taskbar has magically re-appeared. All I did this time was
run a virus scan with the Norton that came with my laptop: it detected a
"backdoor" something and said it had successfully removed it from my computer
and suggested a reboot to make sure. After logging back into my user account,
my taskbar was there again!

I guess it was the "backdoor" virus causing my troubles. Sorry to bother you
with my useless post above.
