When working in windows XP Professional system it suddently went off.
A blue screen appears with the following message:
"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to
prevent damage to your computer
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
If this is the first time you have seen theis stop error screen,
restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these
steps.
Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly
installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or
software manufacturer for any windows update you might need.
If problem continues, disable or remove any newly installed
hardware or software. Disable Bios memory options such as caching or
shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable
components, restart your computer, press F8 to select advanced start up
options, and then select safe mode.

Contact your system administrator or technical support group for
further assistance"
With this message the system stops functioning. I could not restart.
After this the system stops booting. It starts functioning again if I
switched off the system and reboot it again after 30 minutes. I am
terribly confused and irritated. Please help me to come out of this
mess.

When it restarted did the message appear again? If it didn't - don't worry
about it/

If it did, then it appears you have a hardware problem: motherboard, cpu,
memory, etc and that is not the fault of Windows. You need to ask the pople
that made the computer.

Hi,
Try this:
Restart your computer, keep tapping F8 to reach the advanced start up
options screen, and then select Last known good configuration.

Tell me if this works

If you have to let it sit for 30mins, it's likely a overheating problem..
