Windows XP Professional Step-up Program

I just purchased a laptop with XP Home installed and I find I need XP Pro for
the shared offline files. I have read in the press that MS has an XP
Professional Step-up offering that provides a cheaper upgrade path than the
regular Professional Upgrade box. Does anyone know how I can access this
Step-up? I can't find any reference to it on the MS website.

You may want to go to a store that sells Professional upgrade version. There
less the $200.00.

There was some discussion about the possibility of a special "step up"
version that would upgrade XP Home (and only XP Home) to XP Pro.

However no such product was ever released. If you need to have XP Pro
for the machine you have two options:

1. Contact the retailer or manufacturer of your new laptop regarding
the possibility of exchanging it for an identical model with XP Pro
installed, explaining why you need it.

2. Purchase the retail upgrade version of XP Pro and install that
over top of the existing XP Home. Note that if you do this the
original XP Home license *cannot* be legitimately used on another
computer.

Good luck
