Windows XP Professional OS crashes during log on

I have adoubt whether this is caused due to malware or merely due to a
problem with the system. Windows slows down terribly while loading, and
freezes at intervals. When the log-on screen finally appears after a few
minutes (instead of a few seconds under usual circumstances), the computer
craches and the following message appears in white letters against a blue
background:
A problem has been detected on your computer and Windows has been shut down
to prevent damage to your computer.
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
IF this is the first time you're seeing this STOP error screen
do the following steps:
Check if any new hardware or software is installed. If this is a new
installation, contact your device manager. Disable BIOS options like caching
an shadowing

***Idcener.sys,etc..
At first i thought this problem was caused due to bad sectors on the drive.
So i formatted the entire disk and stored XP onto a different location. Once
again the problem has caught up. Please help. Replies can be e-mailed to

This error is usually caused by a bad driver. I Googled for
"Idcener.sys" but didn't get any hits. Are you spelling this correctly?
In any case, since we don't know any of your hardware specs, it is
impossible to be specific. Here is a link to help you troubleshoot the
Stop Error and find out what driver is causing the problem:

If the problems are being caused by hardware, using a software solution
(like installing Windows somewhere else on the drive) is not going to
work. Here are general hardware troubleshooting steps. Not all may
apply to you:

1) Open the computer and run it open, cleaning out all dust bunnies and
observing all fans (overheating will cause system freezing);
2) test the RAM - I like Memtest86 from www.memtest86.com - let the test
run for an extended (like overnight) period of time - unless errors are
seen immediately;
3) test the hard drive with a diagnostic utility from the mftr.;
4) the power supply may be going bad or be inadequate for the devices
you have in the system;
5) test the motherboard with something like TuffTest from
www.tufftest.com. Testing hardware failures often involves swapping out
suspected parts with known-good parts. If you can't do the testing
yourself and/or are uncomfortable opening your computer, take the
machine to a good local computer repair shop (not a CompUSA or Best Buy
type of store).

panel for comment on this particular one. It is probably very difficult
to trace, but is most likely related to a driver for some hardware item
