windows xp professional boot up problem

i have just tried to install a new hard drive with win 98 so my son can play
older games on the computer but whilst trying to do this i have mistakenly
created a primary dos partition on my main windows XP hard drive. since doing
this i have been unable to load windows xp. i have tried the recovery console
but that brings up a blue screen or when using chkdsk E: /p /r it reaches 70%
then drops back to 50% then either does nothing or gives me another blue
screen.I have deleted the dos partition now and i have installed windows xp
on my other drive now and all the folders and data are still on the drive i
just need to get it to boot any ideas please also i think the 8mb cache area
is the bit that got partitioned as my computer is showing a third disk with
an 8mb size?? H E L P M E P L E A S E

i think i know how to fix this.

1)start the PC with the OS disk in the drive
2)press enter to install Windows XP
3)press 'r' to do a repair

this should work

after this going to the Windows update web site and install the updates as
needed.

this works for me when i need it.

if this does not work you may have to reinstall Windows.
if you do backup all of your data first.
when doing this i sugest deleting all the partitions on the disk and letting
the Windows installer create a new one.

before reinstalling Windows ask me for help on that first because there are
issues in the installer if you do it wrong.

i know this stuff from experience.

i already had to reinstall the OS on my PC like 13 times from experementing
with it. i created a fix for each problem so i would never have that issue
again.

Steven
