Windows XP Pro wont boot!

Hi Folks,

I have a compaq evo n610c laptop that will not boot. Safe
mode will not work. Repair install was not fruitful. I
need to get the data off this drive. Although not
microsoft reccomended, to get the data, can I install XP
Pro in a different folder on the same ntfs partition say
winnt1 or windows1, boot off the good version of windows,
get the data then wipe the whole thing? I will say the
recovery console has never worked well in this situation.
reccomendations for solving this type of problem would be
appreciated!!

Thank You!

Yes, you can install into this new temporary folder and then take ownership
of the files currently held hostage by the previous failed OS. I perform
this kind of operation on a regular basis when a client computer gets
trashed by a virus or wayward application.
