Windows XP Pro Start/Programs/List Help

Hi, does anyone know how to rearrange my programs list from the start menu?
The list now covers most of the screen and it's difficult to find anything.
Id like to change the list by adding groups and dropping the programs into
each group. In other words, make a new program list with such titles as
Utilities, internet, Microsoft, Office, etc and be able to use a sub menu
from each to actually click on the programs to start them. The old er
versions of windows made this easy, but I can't find a way to do it with XP.

an example would be

Office
Word
Excel
Power Point
Utilities
Mcaffee
Norton

Instead, I have each seperate program is listed on the first list making it
cover the whole screen with all the programs.

thanks

NCguy,

If you are trying to create new groups on the Start Menu, just right-click
the Start button and select explore. this will open an explorer view tree
that includes the item "start menu." By default, you will be in the start
menu folder for your logon ID, so you may want to go to the Start Menu folder
for "all users" instead (if you have local administrator rights). Anyway,
from this view you can create new groups and move programs into these groups
jsut like you can create directories (folders) in My documents, or anywhere
else.

If your problem is that you have too many programs appearing when you first
click on the start button (before clicking on "All Programs"), right-click
the Start button then select Properties. click on customize for the view you
are using, then adjust the number of programs it is set to show.

Hope this helps,

Go into your Documents and Settings directory (usually in the root of the
C:\ drive) and look in the :

ALL USERS
and
YOURUSERNAME

directories. Look in the "Start Menu" folders. Create directories and
arrange things the way you want them there. Anything in the ALL USERS\Start
Menu appears on ALL the users Start Menus.. Anything just in your Start Menu
folder is just seen by you. If you create a folder and move various
shortcuts into it (or folders, etc), then that is how it will look on your
start menu.
