Windows Xp Pro SP2 Integrated Zip option problem.

Hello, I've tried everything I know to resolve this issue on my own but have
had no success. I thought it pertinent to mention that he does not use IE or
any other web browser to download these files but I have tried the trusted
zones and registry entries and every other solution I have been able to
search out from MS or individual users. Please help:

I am a network admin for a smaller company. One of our sales guys recently
started having the infamous "Windows is blocking access to this file for your
protection" error when he tries to extract files from a .zip that is sent
automatically from one of our sister companies. It says you can go to
properties and click "unblock" which of course I did and which did not work.
When he double clicks the zip it appears empty. When he clicks "extract all
files" it gives the old Blocking this file error mentioned previously. I
searched around google and read a couple suggested fixs and nothing has
worked. I tried a Registry entry that marks certain files as low risk. I made
sure he is a local admin of his machine. I logged in as domain admin and
tried it myself...same result. I am kind of at a loss here and he really
needs to be able to view and extract zip files. Could it be an update he got
and installed? As of right now we dont yet have SMS or WSUS so users pretty
much get to pick their own updates (I know its dumb but I just started.). It
cant really be a group policy because everyone operates under the same policy
and it works fine for them. He is running Windows Xp Pro SP2. Any advice
someone smarter then me could offer would be greatly appreciated because I am
completely out of ideas. I temporarily downloaded winrar for him but the
trial period is about to run out and for the amount of zips he opens a day
its not really a productive solution. He would really like to be able to use
the integrated zip option in xp for quickness and ease of use. Thanks for
your time.

Is he using Outlook Express as Email Client? If yes then

Run Regedit, and go to this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Security (change
10.0 to 9.0 for Outlook 2000 SP3 or to 11.0 for Outlook 2003)
Under that key, add a new string value named Level1Remove.
For the value for Level1Remove, enter a semicolon-delimited list of file
extensions. For example, entering this:

..zip;.mdb;.url

would force you to save Zip file type and unblock Microsoft Access files and
Internet shortcuts.

Not sure if that is your case.

Hope this help, let us know!
