Windows XP Pro SP2 Install results in continuous reboot

Windows XP Pro SP2 Install results in continuous reboot at about 1 sec of MS
entry screen. Can access safe mode.
Gateway E-4600 (circa 2001); latest BIOS and drivers except for Video since
that updated driver will not run View Sonic monitor in digital mode.
Reinstalled using Gateway restore disks to raw drive (two attempts). All
Windows updates successful, including SP2 to finish. Reboot at this and
subsequent points results in the continuous reboot.
(nfo file captured.)
Suggestions appreciated - Thanks for the assistance.

Can you post a copy of the complete report.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on
the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

An alternative is to keep pressing the F8 key during Start-Up and select
option - Disable automatic restart on system failure.

If you are using a wireless keyboard and the F8 key does not work
substitute a wired keyboard and mouse for this exercise only.

Are you still able to access in Safe mode?

Hope this helps.

Gerry,

Thank you for your response. After three days I have found a path that
restores this "ancient" to full use.

The trick was to install to the raw hard drive using the Gateway provided
discs, then installing SP2 before doing anything else. Then installed SP3
and other updates in that order via Windows update. Works like it should,
much to my amazement.

All the best and thanks again,
w8
