Windows XP Pro, not reporting correct installed Memory

IBM Laptop A-31, Max allowed memory 1.0 Gig, 2 slots, installed 2 - 512MB
modules, Kingston, correct supported Part No. from IBM for unit.

Had SimpleTech installed, correct Part No. same issue. Reverse tested
memory, unit reads memory from either slot, but only 512MB

BIOS reads 1,024MB installed, Windows XP Pro, in System Properties 512MB

System very slow, not Fragmented, Virtual set to Windows controlled,
Pagefile running 384MB, indicated Recommended.

Does not have Shared Video memory.

Any Ideas?

Use Start - Run - MSCONFIG, go to the BOOT.INI tab and click on the
Advanced Options button.

In the Advanced Options window make certain that the checkbox for the
/MAXMEM= line is clear and that there is no value in the data box.

Click on Apply and OK as needed to exit. Reboot the computer to put
any changes into effect.

Good luck
