Windows xp pro not booting from hard drive

When I boot from the hard drive it hangs up on:Verifying DMI Pool Data.........
It loads up OK when booting from the CD.
I have tried using the recovery console (fixboot & fix MBR) no good.

Its my brother computer. It was running a scandisk when the power went off.
He should be using a UPS.

Any help

Hi Rob

If you are in to gaming, the term is "owned gg". It doesn't sound good,
you've done what is normally suggested. Checkout the site tweakguides.com
- Download the Tweakguides Tweaking Companion Version 3. It has some
additional tips on recovering from this situation. Good luck.
