Windows XP Pro/Home sharing problem

I have a desktop computer running XP Home wired to a linksys wired/wireless
router. There is also a laptop with XP Pro and a wireless card, which is
Netgear. Both computers connect to the internet with no problem, however
neither of them recognize each other. At one point, they showed up on each
other's network screen, but wouldn't connect to each other. After I
restarted, there was nothing. Do I need to get rid of the firewall on XP Home
that I have? Or does XP Pro have anything extra that might stop sharing? Any
help would be appreciated.

Try turning off the internet firewall in the local area
network section. You may be surprised that it all starts
to work. See my question earlier today in this bulletin
board about this exact problem.

Your MS firewall would definitely affect the LAN working properly if no
setup correctly. Did you try to disable it? You would need to do sam
on both machines. Also disable any third party firewalls you may hav
until you get things going properly.

Problem by doing this is that you leave yourself vunerable to th
Internet so unplug your external telephone/cable connection until you
firewalls are back up running (this might not work if your router need
to be synchronised by your cable provider)
