windows xp pro hangs up at the logo screen

Joe Schleck

After an automatic windows update the computer will not
boot up. It hangs at the logo screen and no keys, mouse,
etc are active. When using F8 and a safe mode start lines
of commands appear and then freeze and the system hangs.
Any ideas how to fix this problem? I am running an Athalon
800 MHz with 384 mb ram. The system before the windows
upgrade was reliable since the upgrade from Windows 98 SE.
TIA. Joe Schleck

Boot the machine into recovery console, find the $NTuninstall$ directory for
the installed update, browse to the spuninst folder and run batch
spuninst.bat to restore the old files.
